CIP (Clean-In-Place) Cleaning System is an automated, closed-circuit cleaning technology designed to sanitize food, beverage, and pharmaceutical processing equipment (tanks, pipelines, filling machines, etc.) without disassembly, ensuring compliance with strict hygiene standards while reducing labor costs and downtime.


Core Components


1. Cleaning Solution Tanks

◦ Typically 3–4 dedicated tanks for alkaline detergent (e.g., sodium hydroxide, removes organic residues like protein, grease), acidic detergent (e.g., nitric acid, eliminates mineral scales like beer stone), sanitizer (e.g., peracetic acid, chlorine dioxide), and rinse water. All tanks are made of food-grade SUS304/SUS316L stainless steel with heating jackets to control solution temperature (60–80°C for enhanced cleaning efficiency).


2. Circulation System

◦ Comprises centrifugal pumps (sanitary grade), flow meters, and pressure gauges to deliver cleaning fluids through the target equipment at a controlled flow rate (1.5–3 m/s) and pressure (0.2–0.4 MPa). Turbine pumps are preferred for high-viscosity detergents, while centrifugal pumps suit low-viscosity rinses.


3. Spray Devices

◦ Tank-mounted rotary spray balls (or spray headers) create 360° high-pressure liquid jets to cover all inner surfaces of tanks; pipeline cleaners (pigging systems) are used for long, narrow pipelines to scrub inner walls and remove stubborn residues.


4. Control System

◦ PLC touchscreen panel to pre-program cleaning cycles (time, temperature, flow rate, detergent concentration) and monitor real-time data. Automated valves switch between different cleaning fluids and drain lines, with built-in sensors to detect detergent concentration and trigger refills or discharges.


Standard Cleaning Cycle


1. Pre-rinse: Flush equipment with cold water to remove loose residues (e.g., leftover beer, sauce) and reduce organic load for subsequent steps.

2. Alkaline wash: Circulate heated alkaline detergent for 20–30 minutes to dissolve grease, proteins, and other organic contaminants.

3. Intermediate rinse: Rinse with clean water to flush out alkaline detergent and dissolved residues.

4. Acid wash: Circulate acidic detergent for 15–20 minutes to dissolve mineral scales and neutralize remaining alkaline residues.

5. Final rinse: Rinse with purified water (or sterile water for high-hygiene products) to remove all detergent traces.

6. Sanitization: Circulate sanitizer solution for 10–15 minutes or use hot water (85–90°C) for thermal sanitization, then drain and dry the system.

Widely used in breweries, beverage plants, dairy factories, cosmetic workshops, and pharmaceutical facilities; compatible with tanks, filling machines, keg washers, can seamers, and other closed processing equipment.
